Meter reading in the past could only be done on site by the meters and recording the index values, whereas meter reading reached to a much more advanced stage thanks to today’s technology. Changing market conditions led to new requirements and compulsory processes and practices. To decrease and optimize energy costs, energy management based on accurate data played an important role. Applications that can detect loss and leak simultaneously and read meter data automatically and error-free have been an important component of energy management.

TeleMetriX is an automated meter reading and energy data management system developed to meet application requirements of energy sector. TeleMetriX, eliminates the need to go by the meter to read it.

SPECIFICATIONS

 

As TeleMetriX has been end-to-end in-house developed, specific customer demands can be met in a short period of time.
Electric-transmission and distribution companies, electricity generation companies, industrial zones, electricity suppliers and consumers monitor and manage their energy production and consumption, energy usage, energy quality and system security by TeleMetriX. TeleMetriX is suitable for energy management applications at the industrial facilities and shopping malls. Likewise, consumers having distributed facilities in a geography can monitor their consumption and energy quality centrally from where they are located. TeleMetriX can at the same time read energy analysers, report the read data and alarm when a defined threshold is exceeded. TeleMetriX brings along abilities like taking reactive limit overruns under control, early warning, automatic invoicing and detailed analysis. TeleMetriX can read water and gas meters. By integrated door contacts at Natrural Gas PRMS, it provides security at these areas. Signals like slam shut etc. can be monitored at the stations. It enables to define parameters like calorific values from the system without going on-site. In the natural gas sector where especially real time data and monitoring trade balance is important, the producers and the distributors can monitor natural gas stations and manage energy usage, energy quality and system reliability by TeleMetriX.
TeleMetriX, supports IEC1107, DLMS COSEM, IEC 870-5-102, VDEW 2.0, MODBUS MODBUS-RTU protocols used in meter communication and has the ability to read power meters with various brands and models of all of the world wide known meter manufacturers. Those that have not been read yet can easily be adapted to the TeleMetriX system.
TeleMetriX can at the same time read reactive power relays independent of brand and model used for compensation. Integration of  most of the world wide known brands has been completed and reporting and deployment on site has been done. Furthermore it enables to remotely control relays. It can remotely change parameters like power factor or activate capacitors. TeleMetriX can support readability of devices with different communication speeds, framing and protocols through a single RS485 port of a GPRS unit. Hence it can minimize the number of communication devices to be deployed on-site. The readibility of meter and reactive power relays with a single hardware and its verification is a differentiation of TeleMetriX. It makes reactive power limit evaluations according to the values on the meter and the relay and sends SMS and E-mail warnings in case of limit violations.
Data Analysis and Reporting Data collected are recorded permanently and can be analysed in tabular and graphical format through out-of-the-box tools. Reporting can be done by both the reporting tools that can be installed on desktops and the intranet or internet using the web browsers. The reports can be exported in standard formats like XML, CSV, TIFF, PDF, Excel, HMTL etc. Balancing This function that addresses energy generation companies is based on the comparison of their generation volume and the consumption volume of the companies that they supply, control of generation-consumption volume and determination of generation surplus or deficit. This analysis is performed by using the data stored synchronously in the load profiles of the generation and consumption power meters. Invoicing Our solution addresses energy generation companies, organized industrial zones and distribution companies supplying energy to consumers. Subscribers, measurement points and contracts can be managed in the invoicing module, the basis data for invoicing can be transferred to other business systems and invoices can directly be printed from our system. Loss and Leak Detection This function that addresses transmission and distribution companies, is based on comparing the energy that runs into a grid and runs out of the grid and analysis of load profiles of the measurement points and total consumption data. Financial loss can be prevented by determining the possible loss and leak points.Blackout/Tamper Detection Stored blackout/tamper cases in the event logs of meters is read by TeleMetriX Reading Module. Early detection of such situations carry an important role to prevent financial losses. Time Synchronization As the data collected from measurement devices are synchronous, the applcation has better performance and more reliable results. Synchronous reading of meters, especially reading load profiles, does not ensure that the data stored are synchronous. Hence especially when the number of measurement points is considered, it is necessary to determine synchronicity problems and automatically correct time synchronization problems. TeleMetriX, determines this problem and synchronizes time. Relay Control This module notifies the reactive energy risk with SMS and E-mail, when the compensation panel goes out of order due to various reasons. It checks the relay operation against the meter. It enables to remotely control voltage, current transformer ratio, target power factor, condanstor activation and deactivation times etc. It also enables the activation and deactivation of condansators from a web browser. Data Correction and Validation Module It enables to validate all data that comes from the site. The module queries raw data collected in the database. The raw data goes through some predefined tests. In case the data passes these tests, they are recorded in the database as validated data. If the data cannot go through anyone of these tests it is recorded in the error log and the module processes the error accordingly.
There are two methods to query for data reading, one is to query centrally from the server, the other is to query on-site. Central querrying can be efficient in systems where the query and the response is short i.e. in systems with modbus or where the number of measurement points is less and where time synchronization is not that important, whereas reading by on-site querying offers higher data reliability and functionality. The advantages of querying on-site as compared to querying centrally are;  Enables synchronous reading in macro scales with a high number of measurement points,  Enables correct analysis and right decisions where balancing and time synchronization are important for genereators and distributers,  As the data volume is lower communication cost is lower and there is no possibility of data loss. Whereas the configuration of central reading is easier and can be preferrable for low number of measurement points on ethernet infrastructure. TeleMetriX, supports both of these reading methods. The smart TeleMetriX terminals can read the meters on-site at predefined intervals without waiting for the read request to come from the central server and transfers to the central server. This method guarantees to read thousands of meters synchronously. Meter data is recorded in the smart terminals in case of GSM/GPRS network outage and transmitted to the central server once the network is in reach again. Smart terminals with watchdog ability are protected against hardware and firmware crashes, whereas the modems and routers that do not have watchdog, can crash very often. The system ensures to be up and running from site to server.

 

If short distances are in concern regarding the data source with the application, the connection is set directly to the electronic communication ports of the meter. In case of long distances, connection to the data source is set through ethernet/internet network, PSTN/Wireless/GSM Modems and smart IP Stacked GPRS terminals.
TeleMetriX, supports a high number of users concurrently. Users can get connected to the system through the intranet or internet. The performance of the central system – i.e. speed of reading meters- is not effected by the number of users.
TeleMetriX has the ability to read thousands of meters in parallel, concurrently if necessary. So that the reading processes can be completed in a very short period of time and it makes use of all available  communication possibilities and capacity.
TeleMetriX, can read all data of the meters i.e. identity of the meter, date/time, parametrisation, power, energy, current, voltage, demand, load profile, error event logs.
TeleMetriX can read meter data at desired frequency and high speed correctly. It can transmit the read data to required individuals or organisations via E-mail, SMS and other data transfer methods. TeleMetriX enables to create flexible time schedules that allow to read the meter at specific days of the month or the week, constant daily intervals or continuously. Furthermore the reading intervals during the day and frequency can be set in detail. Reading operations can be performed through reading tasks triggered by schedules. Reading tasks contain settings like meters to be read and data to be read from the meter. Thanks to this flexible functionality, each of the meters and the data to be read can be managed one by one and thousands of meters can easily be read by a few common settings. It is possible to read different data types in different time intervals. For example meter index data can be read every day, load profile and zero out data can be read once a month.
Server Software   Central system (server) software constitutes the heart of TeleMetriX. Data that is read on-site is collected in the central server, stored and offered to use. Server software is composed of various modules. These are as follows; Reading Module Reading module, collects data from the meters, relays and energy analyzers and stores all data in the central database. Control Center Control center is the basic user tool that enables the usage of the system, all definitions and set-up of the system including the field terminals. What is more, data that is read by the system can be queried and monitored from within this system. Web Reporting Module Web reporting module offers flexible reporting without setting up a desktop software. PI Interface The reading module has an interface that transfers data to Osisoft PI which turned into an industry standard. The system can practically be configured such that all data that is read by the system can be uploaded into one or more PI system. So that it is possible to process read data by using the tools of PI. IP.21 Interface TeleMetrix has an interface to Aspentech IP.21 that is widely used at industrial MIS projects. Through this interface all the read data can be transferred into IP.21 system. Central System Server Central system server hosts central system modules. Operating system, database software and other system programs run on this server. Central Communication Hardware Central communication hardwares are those that enable the central server programs to communicate with the communication hardwares on-site or that collect data that are transmitted from the site. PSTN/GSM/ADSL terminals, ethernet cards, serial port interfaces are examples to these hardwares. On-site Communication/Data Collection Hardwares On-site Communication/Data Collection Hardwares, are those that are set by the meters on-site and depending on the preferred communication method, it becomes either an intermediary for the server to query the meter data or reads the meter data itself and transmits to the server. PSTN/GSM/GPRS terminals and serial communication devices are examples of such hardware.
